This original oil called Hubris depicts the vision I saw in 2016 and rested on the back burner until it was released to me to recreate a few months ago. The vision consisted of a pyramid suspended in the air whose base had been eroded by the living water. The vision reminded me of the crumbling of the modern-day Pharaohs due to self-glory of their self-awareness.
This piece, Hubris, is defined as the exaggerated pride or overinflated self-confidence we mortals contend with since The Fall, which still stands as the best example of hubris. In the Bible Satan's sin that led to his downfall is described in Isaiah 14:12 "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will also sit upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High."
But we are redeemed per 1 Corinthians 15:52, "in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 for this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 so when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
God always wins.
